Job description

Data is the foundation of everything we do. As a senior data engineer you’ll have authority (and responsibility) of designing and maintaining infrastructure for collecting, storing, processing, and analyzing terabyte-scale sets of data including large document corpora, machine learning results, metadata, and application data.

We are looking for a Data Engineer to collect, manage, and deploy massive sets of global patent data and more. Your role will be to ensure that our dataset of over 100 million patents is readily available for our web application and data science teams. You’ll also be responsible for identifying and integrating additional data sets which allow us to expand our product features and AI capabilities.

This is an exciting opportunity to engage with cutting-edge technology and work on a real-world problem at global scale. In addition to competitive compensation and benefits there is also room for the right person to take on increased responsibilities. And it’s a lot of fun (although fast-paced and even chaotic at times) working as part of a small, passionate team.

Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of understanding, acquiring, and managing innovation and technology related datasets starting with global patents
  • Write and automate pipelines for data cleansing, ingestion of machine learning results, ingestion of raw data from multiple sources, aggregation and more
  • Architect and manage data infrastructure to optimize for machine learning, large-scale data exploration
  • Ensure fast and reliable access to clean data which our client-facing web application depends on
  • Seek and integrate new sources of data related to our core business
  • Communicate data extent and performance to internal consumers

Minimum Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • BSc/BEng degree in computer science or equivalent
  • Strong relational database experience, preferably with Postgres
  • The ability to communicate high level information about datasets, preferably using data visualization
  • Experience writing performant data pipelines at scale, e.g. with Spark or Airflow
  • The ability to use a modern language with a strong concurrency model for fast data processing such as Elixir, Rust or Go

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MSc/MEng degree in computer science or equivalent
  • Passion for AI and excitement about new developments
  • Contributions to open source projects
  • Experience with machine learning
  • Experience with data visualisation

About amplified ai

At Amplified AI, we are a rapidly growing team dedicated to changing the way the world innovates. Our mission is as important as it is audacious. Advances in science and technology are the only opportunity to solve many of society's greatest threats, such as access to clean water, climate change, and antibiotic resistance. We're not sending humans to Mars (yet), but we are enabling the people building that technology to get there faster.

Guided by our core values, we push the boundaries of applied artificial intelligence to design creative solutions for systemic problems.  For example, we created a map of the world’s patent knowledge in order to empower inventors, attorneys, and patent offices with more accurate insight into the state of the art in any given field. As a result, our customers benefit from dramatic increases in efficiency and society benefits from a fairer system that promotes innovation instead of litigation.

Benefits

  • Remote-first: we’ve operated remote-first since day one
  • Paid time off: time off is important to doing good work
  • Flexible work policy: we care about what you do, not when and where
  • Mission driven: impact is just as important to us as our bottom line
  • Diversity and inclusion: committed to a genuinely inclusive workplace
  • Interesting tech stack: Deep learning, Elixir, and GraphQL in prod
  • Training/development: conference attendance, books, courses, and more

  • Remote-first: we’ve operated remote-first since day one
  • Paid time off: time off is important to doing good work

Technical Account Manager
Platform.sh
Min Salary:

Technical Account Manager

Platform.sh

Platform.sh is excited to be hiring our first Technical Account Manager for the US region.

Platform.sh is a fully distributed company building a one of a kind Platform as a Service.  We help our customers develop, deploy, and host their web applications as efficiently as possible using our containerized hosting platform. Your expertise is sought in assisting our largest enterprise customers with a wide range of technical and business needs:

* Helping business stakeholders better understand how their technical investment in our product can bring even greater returns than they currently realize.

* Helping development teams learn to make more efficient use of the platform.  This can include training and general technical consulting, but can also include highly specific tasks like configuration help and troubleshooting.

* Helping facilitate communication between the customer, our internal support team, and potentially other external stakeholders like development agencies.

The role is deliberately broad, so much of the following describes your technical background:

* You've spent several years developing web applications using an array of different frameworks, front and back (but mainly back). You have enough experience building the web to appreciate the right tool for the job, so hate threads about PHP are usually of a waste of your time.

* You've spent at least a few years on the Linux command line administering public facing servers.  You know where to find all the different logs, the stuck SQL queries, what's killing the CPU, what IOPS are and why they matter.  You can teach your boss how to create a systemd service.

* You are familiar with stalwart open source tools like Munin and Nagios, as well as commercial solutions like New Relic and Loggly.

* You like to talk about caching and performance at length.

* You don't think using Git from the terminal is hard at all.

* You have an intermediate amount of experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP.

* You know what containers are and why they're an important technical development.

* You're great with people and can speak conversationally on any of the above topics with non-technical "business types".

You'll be reporting to the Director of Customer Care who has extensive background with each of our current Technical Accounts in the US and will bring you up to speed.  You'll be accountable for 6 to 10 active enterprise customers with a wide range of projects and needs so strong organizational skills are a nice to have, but not strictly required.  What's most required is your curiosity and your enthusiasm for helping people solve their problems.

This is a fully remote position.  Prior experience with fully remote work is not required, but a command of written communication is the key to your success in this role.
